The Horticulture Farm Manager will be responsible for the strategic oversight and day-to-day management of potato cultivation and harvesting operations. This includes directing crop production, irrigation, labour management, machinery use, and compliance with quality and safety standards. The role plays a critical leadership function in ensuring that all aspects of the potato growing cycle—from paddock planning to produce delivery—are optimised for efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
Some of the Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring crop production strategies and ensuring production output meets agreed specifications and market requirements
- Planning and managing production schedules using Trimble Agri Data or equivalent systems
- Oversee acquisition, maintenance and operation of farm equipment used in potato production
- Recruit, train, and manage a seasonal workforce (including working holiday visa holders), ensuring productivity and adherence to farm standards.
- Coordinate transport and accommodation for seasonal staff and manage onboarding administration in liaison with HR/payroll.
- Oversee general farm maintenance and equipment scheduling, including the planning of seasonal off-crop tasks.
- Enforce all relevant occupational health and safety standards across field operations.
- Ensure the team operates in compliance with Australian agricultural laws, environmental standards, and visa regulations.
Experience required:
- Minimum three years’ experience with proven leadership in horticultural or broadacre farming, with a focus on potato cultivation.
- In-depth understanding of potato production cycles, crop rotation, and pests/disease management.
- Advanced knowledge of irrigation techniques, machinery operations and agri-data systems.
- Experience managing seasonal labour forces, including visa-related awareness.
- Strong record-keeping, logistical coordination, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Demonstrated capacity for problem-solving, especially under field conditions (e.g. weather, equipment issues)
- Physically fit and capable of fieldwork during peak production times.
Qualifications required:
- Diploma or higher in Agriculture, Horticulture, or a related discipline (preferred but not mandatory).
- Manual driver’s licence.
Benefits:
Salary range: $65,000 to $75,000 per Annum + Superannuation
