HP CIVIL CONTRACTORS PTY LTD is seeking a skilled and motivated Full-Time Telecommunications Cable Jointer (38 hours per week) to join our dynamic team. As a telecommunications Cable Jointer , you’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecommunications infrastructure including fibre optic and copper cabling systems. You’ll work across a variety of projects—residential, commercial, and civil—ensuring all work meets compliance standards and client expectations.

Task & responsibilities
- Installs, joins, terminates, and repairs copper and fibre optic telecommunications cables in underground pipes, trenches, and overhead systems to establish and maintain network connectivity.
- Performs cable splicing and termination using specialized equipment and techniques to ensure high-quality signal transmission and minimal data loss.
- Locates faults in telecommunications cables using testing instruments such as OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer) and carries out necessary repairs.
- Reads and interprets network plans, cable schematics, and technical drawings to determine cable routes, jointing locations, and installation requirements.
- Operates cable hauling and laying equipment to safely install cables in various environments, including confined spaces and elevated structures.
- Ensures cable joints are properly sealed and protected against environmental hazards such as moisture, heat, and mechanical stress.
- Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of cable infrastructure to identify potential issues and prevent service disruptions.
- Collaborates with network engineers, field technicians, and contractors to coordinate cable installation and repair projects.
- Adheres to occupational health and safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices in hazardous environments.
- Maintains accurate records of cable installations, jointing activities, fault locations, and test results for compliance and future reference.
- Provides technical support and guidance to apprentices and junior technicians in cable jointing procedures and safety protocols.
- Ensures compliance with telecommunications industry standards and regulatory requirements during all phases of cable work.
Qualification & experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in similar role.
- ACMA Open Cabling Licence + relevant endorsements.
- White Card (Construction Induction).
- Proficiency with OTDR, fusion splicer, and other telecom testing tools.
- Asbestos Awareness & Handling training.
- Confined Space Entry certification.
- NBN Enable ID.
- WZTM Card.
- First Aid & CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Proven skills in fibre optic splicing, testing, and structured cabling.
- Strong understanding of Australian telecommunications standards.
