The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a small team, managing workflow, and delivering high-quality automotive repairs and diagnostics.

Task & responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a team of mechanics, assigning tasks and ensuring smooth daily workshop operations.
- Manage workflow to ensure efficiency, timely job completion, and high customer satisfaction.
- Train, mentor, and support junior mechanics and apprentices in technical procedures and professional development.
- Review job cards, inspect completed work, and ensure repairs meet safety and quality standards.
- Perform and oversee routine servicing and complex mechanical repairs, including brakes, suspension, engine diagnostics, and clutch systems.
- Use diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately identify mechanical and electrical faults.
- Remove, inspect, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, cooling systems, steering, and drivetrains.
- Replace or recondition worn or faulty parts such as radiators, alternators, batteries, timing belts, and other major components.
- Conduct post-repair road testing to confirm successful fault resolution and optimal vehicle performance.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding diagnostics, repair options, cost estimates, and timelines.
- Monitor and manage parts inventory; order components and ensure availability for ongoing and upcoming jobs.
- Liaise with management to report on team performance, workshop requirements, and areas for operational improvement.
- Uphold WHS (Work Health and Safety) practices, ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant workshop environment at all times.
Qualification & experience
- AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (including 2 years on-job training) or Certificate IV, ideally supported by a Diploma-level qualification in an automotive field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Australia as a qualified Motor Mechanic.
- Proven ability to lead a team and manage workshop operations.
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across a range of vehicle systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Full, valid driver’s license.
