Senior Project Officer

Open Government, Information and Privacy 

• Principal location – Parramatta - Flexible working arrangements maybe negotiated.
• Employment type – Ongoing – Full time (35 hours)
• Salary – Clerk Grade 9/10, Base Salary ($125,693– $ 138,510), plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading 

Your role 

The Senior Project Officer will lead, coordinate and support complex projects in open government, privacy, and information access, including Data Breach Response Teams established in response to data breaches impacting the Department of Communities and Justice. This is an excellent opportunity to manage key legislative compliance initiatives and work with diverse stakeholders to achieve high-impact outcomes. The role reports directly to the Director, Open Government, Information and Privacy Unit. 

What you’ll do 

As part of the Open Government, Information and Privacy Unit, you will manage the planning, development, and implementation of privacy and access to information projects. You will oversee responses to data breaches and statutory applications, ensuring legislative compliance. 

You will also:

• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong relationships and ensure legislative compliance.
• Provide expert advice and training to the department on privacy and access to information laws.
• Monitor and evaluate all aspects of project implementation, identifying and addressing issues to ensure successful outcomes.
• Coordinate and prepare briefing notes, submissions, and notices of decision under relevant acts.
• Lead or support Data Breach Response Teams, ensuring compliance with governance and quality requirements.
• Undertake research and provide evidence-based recommendations for decision-making and project planning.
• Contribute to the development of policies and processes that improve the department’s legislative compliance and operational efficiency.
• Support the preparation of reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Work as part of a collaborative team, known for its expertise and commitment to privacy legislation, in a dynamic and supportive office environment. 

What we’re looking for 

• Strong experience managing complex projects and stakeholder relationships, with a proven track record in delivering results and navigating challenges.
• Proven ability to handle data breaches, privacy reviews, and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
• Knowledge of GIPA, Privacy Acts, and a strong understanding of privacy and information access principles is preferred.
• Experience in strategic project management, with expertise in methodologies, processes, and effective project execution. 

Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:

• National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
• Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
• Fingerprint checks are required to be conducted at a Police Station and obtained prior to commencing with DCJ.
