We are seeking an experienced and high performing Senior Business Analyst to join our dynamic team. You will need to be a person who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoys working on complex, meaningful projects. You’ll be supporting NHMRC’s strategic objectives by developing holistic (people, process, and technology) solutions, enabling better-informed decision-making, contributing to high-impact projects supporting the health and medical research sector. You’ll have the chance to drive efficiency, explore new approaches and contribute to impactful, innovative projects.

In this role, you’ll work closely with business units and stakeholders to gather and analyse business requirements, map processes, and identify opportunities to improve or transform systems and workflows. You will translate these needs into functional specifications and work with technical teams to implement practical, user-centred solutions that align with organisational goals.

We’re seeking someone who can confidently provide expert advice, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes with minimal direction. You’ll also support key NHMRC projects through reporting and insights, policy development, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement.

You’ll be expected to work across a broad range of systems and processes - so experience in evaluating, recommending and implementing efficient business practices using new or existing technologies is essential. The role also includes contributing to the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), benefit and risk analyses and technical or operational documentation.

This is not an entry-level or training position. You will need to step confidently into the role from day one, applying your senior-level expertise to influence outcomes and support innovation across the organisation.

About the Section
The Business Intelligence and Data Access (BIDA) Section plays a critical role in supporting NHMRC’s mission through smart use of data, innovation, and continuous improvement. As part of the Technology and Data Branch, BIDA ensures the organisation meets its legislative responsibilities while also delivering modern, user-focused solutions that enhance business operations.

The section provides services across business and process analysis, user-centred design, change management, data governance, helping to shape systems and strategies that are fit for purpose and future ready. BIDA works closely with stakeholders across the agency to understand business needs, identify gaps, deliver tailored solutions that support better decision-making and improved user experiences.

BIDA is a small, high-performing team committed to collaboration, innovation and delivering value through continuous improvement.

The key duties of the position include:

As the Senior Business Analyst, you will contribute to the delivery of NHMRC’s business intelligence, system improvement, and data governance initiatives. Your key responsibilities will include:
•    Collaborating with business units to elicit, analyse, and document business requirements, translating them into clear functional specifications and technical solutions.
•    Producing high-quality briefings, analytical reports, and documentation to support senior management and stakeholders in informed, evidence-based decision-making.
•    Driving continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline systems and processes, enhance efficiency, and increase resilience.
•    Managing and delivering work packages or initiatives, ensuring objectives, timeframes and quality expectations are met.
•    Supporting organisational change through planning and contributing to change management activities and communication strategies.
•    Providing input into the design, documentation and implementation of business processes, SOPs, and system enhancements.
•    Assisting with the ongoing maintenance of core business systems and completing associated administrative tasks as required.

You will work across a diverse range of projects and initiatives, often in a consultative role with the support of the BIDA team, providing expert guidance and practical solutions that align with organisational strategy and user needs.
