A unique opportunity to join the Administrative Review Tribunal as a Senior Associate to the President.

This position will be based in Melbourne on a non-ongoing basis for a period of 12 months with the possibility of extension. On site attendance will be required. 

Remuneration: The annual salary range for the position is APS5 - $85,755 - $91,809 p.a., plus a generous employer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.

About the opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with Justice Kyrou hearing complex administrative law cases predominantly as the President of the Administrative Review Tribunal but also as a Judge of the Federal Court.

The Senior Associate to the President provides legal and case-management support and works closely with other Tribunal members, associates and registry staff to achieve desired outcomes.

About you:

To be successful in this role, you should be articulate, energetic and resilient individual who can build positive professional relationships easily. You will have highly developed, accurate written and verbal communication skills with excellent research abilities, excellent computer literacy and high-level administrative experience, including well-developed proofreading skills with proficiency in grammar is an essential part of this role.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the successful applicant to gain invaluable experience in an Administrative Review Tribunal setting as well as a Court setting, and to closely observe the work of advocates.

The duties of an Associate are detailed in the attached position description but specifically include:

  • Supporting the preparation of reasons for decisions, orders and case-related correspondence.
  • Fact-checking, proof-reading, and editing decisions.
  • Undertaking complex legal and other research.
  • Clerking at hearings, using hearing room technology to ensure proceedings are transcribed, swearing in witnesses, and recording orders.
  • Undertaking general administrative support functions, including filing. 

Essential: 

  • Qualifications – completed recognised degree in Law
  • An excellent academic record
  • Hold or be able to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance following commencement

Desirable:

  • At least 1-year post admission experience as a lawyer
