Garvan’s Clinical Translation and Engagement (CT & E) Platform is an interdisciplinary team of genetic counsellors, psychosocial and clinical researchers with advanced capabilities in health and translational research.
As one of Garvan’s research platforms the CT & E Platform offers health and psychosocial research expertise, specialised research services, infrastructure, and support to enable Garvan researchers to have clinical, social, economic, and scientific impact. In addition, the CT & E Platform supports researchers to return genetic results to research participants and facilitates Garvan researchers to involve diverse communities and consumers in research.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Research Officer will join the CT & E team at Garvan and co-ordinate/undertake qualitative psychosocial research for our research projects. Our research examines the implications of returning clinically actionable genomic research results to research participants and the psychosocial impact of new genomic technologies.
Salary: Up to $99,000 (prorated: $59,400) + 14% super + salary packaging (depending on experience)
Employment Type: 2 year fixed term contract with possibility to extend

WHAT YOU WILL DO
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities include:
1. Clinical Research
-
Competently conduct rigorous and ethical qualitative research including data collection and analysis.

Communicate research outcomes and provide regular updates including summaries of data collection, results and project progression to the CT & E team and other stakeholders.

Prepare research data for publications and presentations.

Provide supervision of staff and students when appropriate.

Participate in research team and group meetings.
2. Other

Prioritise health, safety & wellbeing by complying with Garvan’s workplace polices (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS)Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan’s number one priority.

ABOUT YOU
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The key skills and experience include:

Higher degree e.g., Masters, PhD or other appropriate qualification in a relevant health-related discipline, e.g., health services research, implementation science, medical sciences, genetic counselling, or psychology.

Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative data collection and analysis, i cluding conducting research interviews.

Demonstrated project management skills including the ability to prioritise different work demands.

Experience in the use of databases, layout of documents and reports, as well as using on-line library searching software.

Experience in preparing and applying for research regulatory approvals.

Highly collaborative: able to build and maintain professional relationships within and between teams; comfortable engaging with complex discussions through remote means (e.g. Slack, video conferencing, telephone).

Excellent verbal communication skills: able to present original research at scientific conferences.

Excellent written communication skills: able to contribute to and lead papers, grants, and technical reports.

Highly organised and capable of managing a dynamic workload with strong emotional quotient.
