About the Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Policy Officer is to:

  • provide sound regulatory policy advice to inform decision making
  • conduct high-level research and provide technical advice
  • prepare high level briefings and correspondence including briefings and correspondence for the responsible Minister, including Parliamentary Briefing Notes and Estimates briefings
  • prepare high level Cabinet documentation
  • contribute to legislative development and the preparation of Bill folders
  • interpret legislation, Australian Standards and other technical information
  • engage with other SafeWork SA staff to ensure legislation, technical expertise and knowledge is interpreted and translated into plain English material and related documentation.

SafeWork SA is a business unit within Attorney-General’s Department and is responsible for providing work, health and safety, public safety, and state-based industrial relations services across South Australia. As a regulator, our Investigators and Inspectors ensure work, health and safety, and public safety standards are met, and appropriate action is taken when breaches of laws are detected. We also help people better understand their work health and safety responsibilities.
