The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is a critical participant in the administration of justice within Western Australia, providing an independent and effective criminal prosecution service and confiscation practice.

The Legal Projects Officer supports the varied activities of the Director’s Chambers by administering legal precedents, policies and systems which are critical to the work of State Prosecutors in criminal prosecutions.

The Legal Projects Officer:

  • Maintains the ODPP’s legislation database, legal document templates in the prosecution case management system, indictment precedents and indictment drafting guidelines.
  • Drafts and revises internal legal policies and procedures.
  • Examines legal issues in the above documents by undertaking legal research and consultation.
  • Contributes to the development of the ODPP’s online ‘Legal Knowledge Base’.
  • Provides support to the other varied activities of the Director’s Chambers, including law reform consultation, Ministerial briefing notes, external complaints.

Depending on experience, the Legal Projects Officer may take on privacy, information-sharing and data compliance-related legal work, including providing legal advice to the Director and corporate business areas regarding legislative requirements under the new Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024.

You will be: reliable, diligent, have a mature and professional outlook, and be able to demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in the small, trusted and high-performing team within the Director’s Chambers.
