Engagement Type Full-Time, 38 Hours a week

Council's commitment to enhancing recreational spaces is evident through the investment in the
development of the Buchanan Park Facility. The Buchanan Park complex has an array of maintenance
requirements from care of grounds, gardens and irrigation through to general maintenance of the sites
facilities. The role will collaborate closely with various Council departments to ensure that all maintenance
and operational activities are conducted in accordance with approved schedules and meet predefined
quality standards.

  • Previous experience in maintenance tasks and the ability to identify and undertake preventative
maintenance as required.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices and promote a
positive safety culture within the Council.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills and the ability to work well within a team
environment and with minimal or no supervision.
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills necessary to maintain servicing records and completion of
timesheets and other relevant documentation.
  • Preferrable but not essential -trade qualifications with demonstrated experience in an equivalent
role or similar.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for the following areas and includes but is not limited to:

  • Conduct regular inspections of grounds and infrastructure, carrying out maintenance tasks and
minor repairs as required.
  • Undertake all labouring and manual handling functions of the role as directed by the Leading
Hand/Supervisor (inclusive of gardening and grounds equipment use).
  • Allocate resources or source contractors to assist with maintenance or repairs where it’s beyond
the capacity or resources of the position’s skills and requirements.
  • The co-ordination, scheduling and completion of maintenance related works pertaining to
Council’s Buchanan Park facility.
  • Assist with emergency repair work, maintenance and preventative maintenance.

  • Work at various locations throughout the Council area as required/requested.
  • Maybe required on occasions to undertake relief work for other positions if suitably qualified,
experienced, and ticketed.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions to problems identified and inform the supervisor.
  • Operate equipment safely and confidently and ensure that pre-start checks are done each
morning.
  • Ensuring work vehicle is maintained in good condition.
  • Other duties as directed that fall within the scope of this position description and classification.
  • Out of ordinary hours work may be required.
  • You are required to follow any other lawful and reasonable directives provided by your supervisor
or more senior officer.
  • Council reserves the right to change these duties at any time.
