As the manufacturing landscape continues to be challenged in Australia, Hycast is looking for a Production Engineer to join the team and contribute to the success of the business. We need a partner with a shared passion for sovereign capabilities to come with us on this journey. 

To be based at our casting foundry in Smithfield, Sydney, we are seeking a qualified Production Engineer (Mechanical Engineer) with at least 3 years of experience. Salary of $95,000 - $105,000 + super for this full time position. 

The Production Engineer will work closely with the Production Manager, Production Supervisor, Technical Manager and Chemical/Process Engineer to ensure designed processes are implemented effectively within the foundry. The role has three key areas, as shown below. 

Tasks and Responsibilities (not limited to the following):

1. Process Implementation & Oversight 

  • Supervising the manufacturing processes, ensuring quality work is done in a safe, efficient manner. 
  • Liaising with other engineers to develop plans that improve production, costs, and labour required. 
  • Diagnosing problems in the production line and providing recommendations and training. 
  • Keeping abreast of advancements in engineering and production and sharing knowledge with co-workers. 
  • Identifying, documenting, and reporting unsafe practices. 
  • Analysing all facets of production and making recommendations for improvement. 
  • Outlining a budget based on requirements and tracking costs to deliver project on budget. 

2. Plant & Equipment Engineering 

  • Provide administrative support to the Maintenance Department 
  • Generation and distribution of maintenance, production, and other PMs to responsible parties 
  • Updating and maintaining asset and preventive maintenance task information in HYSYS 
  • Tracking PM and work order data 
  • Organizing and coordinating PM activities with maintenance, engineering, and production departments 
  • Work with the Production Manager to develop effective preventive maintenance procedures. 
  • Gathering information to complete monthly reports for maintenance. 
  • Completing monthly KPI's for maintenance and production PM's and WO's 
  • Coordinating contractor work along with unscheduled work 
  • Distributing all required material to vendors/contractors before coming on site 

3. Special Project Implementation 

  • Defining project objectives, project scope, roles & responsibilities. 
  • Defining resource requirements and managing resource availability & allocation – both internal and third party. 
  • Outlining a budget based on requirements and tracking costs to deliver project on budget. 
  • Preparing a detailed project plan to schedule key project milestones, workstreams & activities. 
  • Managing delivery of the project according to this plan. 
  • Tracking project and providing regular reports on project status to project team and key stakeholders. 
  • Managing and adjusting for any changes in project scope, schedule and / or budget. 
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Carry out any other responsibilities, which may be found necessary by the Hyteam. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor-level Mechanical Engineering qualification. Masters-level will be highly advantageous. 

Experience Requirement:

  • At least 3 years of relevant Production/Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • A strong competency in all the above tasks and duties. 

Essential Skills and Requirements:

 

  • Knowledge of NATA and ISO within a production environment would be an advantage but not essential 
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, with the ability to assist the business in further implementing CI and lean practices 
  • Proficient computer skills across the Microsoft Office suite of programs 
  • Data driven, strong planning and analytical skills with the ability to think strategically. Ability to analyse data, identify discrepancies, solve problems, and initiate corrective action. 
  • Ability to facilitate root cause analysis activities and high level of problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent teamwork skills including leading and participating in project teams and coaching and supporting production operators to achieve organisational objectives. 
  • A high degree of autonomy and the ability to make sound business decisions 
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality and people 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give clear and precise work instructions 
  • Strong safety and quality focus, capable of implementing established procedures and always with a view to process improvement
