We’re currently looking for a full-stack WordPress engineer with stronger/more current front-end development skills to join our team to work on a series of exciting upcoming product launches for a global brand in 2025.

Full-stack engineers are expected to be able to work both autonomously (with direction from their project manager) or as part of a larger team while reporting to the project’s tech lead while taking part in agile ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning and sprint showcases.

About you

Ideally, you will have 3-5 years of experience as a WordPress developer while practising both object-oriented PHP (ideally utilising an MVC approach) and ES6 Javascript and React (as it pertains to Gutenberg). You will have a thorough understanding of the WordPress request lifecycle and be equally comfortable working on backend tasks such as data migrations, custom plugin development and the REST API as implementing front-end build tools, extending and creating Gutenberg blocks and utilising CSS frameworks like Tailwind.

Ideally you’ll have experience within agency or product development teams within an agile environment and are accustomed to relevant tools such as Jira and Confluence from a project management perspective and GitHub/BitBucket ecosystems including code reviews, pull/merge requests, actions and deployment/pipeline systems.

Required Skills:

ICT Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years full time work experience to substitute

3+ years experience overall in WordPress development with;

Experience in backend, including object oriented PHP and MySQL.

Experience in front-end, including ES6 JS, React, Tailwind and generalHTML5/SASS/SCSS.

Experience with Advanced Custom Fields, Gravity Forms, Yoast/RankMath, especially customising and extending them for advanced use cases.

Experience with block development, including native block development (gutenberg) and ACF block development.

Extensive experience with extending WordPress through the WordPress hook system, filters, actions, etc.

Familiarity with package managers like Composer (for PHP) and NPM/Yarn (for JS).

Proficiency with front-end tooling, particularly webpack and vite, and integrating them into WordPress Theme development.

Comfortable using Git or similar version control systems, and CI/CD workflows.

Thorough understanding of the MVC pattern

Comfortable in the command line, and using SSH on remote servers.

Comfortable working with local development environments such as Lando, LocalWP or other docker-based environments.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with Laravel or other MVC-based frameworks
  • Involvement in the WordPress/open source community
  • Have worked with digital publishers/high traffic WordPress websites in the past
  • Experience or familiarity with hosting providers like WPEngine and WordPress VIP
  • React Native experience
