About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists to join our national commercial business unit as a Commercial Loss Adjuster in our Melbourne office. 

The role will involve managing a portfolio of property claims and require strong stakeholder engagement, including compliance with service level agreements, key performance indicators and technical referrals.

About You

You will have previous experience in commercial claims and you will also have general knowledge and understanding of General Insurance regulations and laws that affect insurance practices.

You will be responsible for maintaining Crawford’s reputation and integrity by complying with them. We will provide internal on-the-job training. You'll also be a people person and have the ability to demonstrate a caring, empathetic and positive approach. In addition, you will be thorough and logical and able to make rational decisions in a fast-paced environment and be happy always to go the extra mile.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake office and field based assessment and investigation of commercial insurance losses from first advice to final settlement.
  • Provide support and advice to policy holders with respect to their claims.
  • Examine claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverage.
  • Investigate claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, by inspecting physical damage, by comparing claim information with evidence.
  • Set loss reserves and control claims costs.
  • Settle claims after determining insurance carrier’s liability, client’s instructions, and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement recommendations, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage and pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
  • Effectively deal with service/product replacement providers.
  • Recommend litigation when appropriate.
  • Present evidence at legal proceedings producing reports and other documents as evidence if applicable.
  • Comply with and maintain Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Maintain company reputation and insurance product integrity by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Loss Adjuster
  • Thorough knowledge of insurance terminology, practices and conditions
  • Excellent report writing skills & sound verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferably marketing/business development experience
  • Understanding of basic business accounting procedures
  • Good attention to detail, with a strong Client service focus experience
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability – in addition to adequate numeracy & literacy skills
  • Good computer abilities, preferably previous use of an electronic claims system
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills (relationship building)
  • Professional and positive outlook with great interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work without leadership or supervision & holds a Driver’s license
  • Loss Adjusting qualifications preferred, or Professional qualifications applicable to the Loss Adjusting industry
