The Electrician will be responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to meet client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will support MDB Electrical Adelaide’s commitment to clean energy by delivering safe, efficient, and compliant solar installations and electrical work.

Tasks & responsibilities

Duties:

  • Install, test, and commission solar PV systems including inverters, panels, switchboards, and battery storage units.
  • Lay out and connect wiring and electrical components for solar power systems in compliance with standards (AS/NZS 3000 & AS/NZS 5033).
  • Read and interpret blueprints, circuit diagrams, and technical specifications for solar and general electrical installations.
  • Carry out general electrical work related to solar installations such as upgrading switchboards, installing meters, and integrating grid connections.
  • Inspect solar systems to diagnose faults and carry out repairs, replacements, or adjustments as required.
  • Conduct maintenance services on installed systems including checking insulation resistance, DC voltages, current flow, and inverter logs.
  • Perform testing and verification of solar systems using specialised equipment (e.g., multimeters, clamp meters, IV curve testers).
  • Complete all required documentation, including installation certificates, safety checklists, and compliance reports.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely and maintain them in good working order.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all electrical installations comply with Australian standards and Clean Energy Council (CEC) requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures and maintain a safe job site at all times.
  • Coordinate with project managers and clients to ensure that project timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of renewable energy technologies and industry practices.
  • Identify and report non-compliant electrical practices or safety risks to supervisors immediately.
  • Mentor apprentices or junior team members when required, ensuring safe and competent performance.
  • Ensure that all tools, materials, and job sites are properly managed and kept orderly.
  • Keep accurate records of work completed and materials used for inventory and compliance tracking.

Qualifications & experience

  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician or a relevant qualification.
  • White Card (Construction Induction Safety Certificate).
  • Current Australian driver’s licence.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as an Electrician.
  • Proven experience in installing and maintaining solar PV systems is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Australian electrical and safety standards and solar compliance regulations.
  • Strong technical knowledge in electrical and solar energy systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and technical documents.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Good physical fitness to work at heights and in outdoor environments.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
