Type: Labour hire contract | 3-6 months with possible extension
Rate: $85-$100/hr + 11.5% super (increasing to 12% from July 2025)

What You'll Be Doing
As the lead for a federal agency's Finance section, you'll:
Oversee all financial operations, including reporting, controls, taxation (GST/FBT), reconciliations, and audit preparation
Develop and maintain robust internal controls, policies, and best practice service delivery
Provide strategic financial advice and insights to executive leaders
Manage a small team, support their development, and ensure day-to-day functions run smoothly
Lead and advise on the use and development of the agency's FMIS (Finance One)
Prepare monthly/annual statements, government reports, and cash flow projections
Monitor and apply changes to financial policy and legislative guidance
We want someone who is:
Experienced: You've got 3-5+ years of proven success in APS finance, and you're confident managing federal budgets, compliance, and reporting.
Security Cleared: You hold a Baseline clearance (minimum) and are ready to step into a role with immediate responsibility.
Resilient & Self-Reliant: This role comes with minimal handover and limited documentation-you'll need to find your feet quickly.
A Strong Leader: You've managed small teams before and know how to support people while driving outcomes.
A Skilled Communicator: Whether briefing execs or mentoring staff, you're clear, professional, and confident in your delivery.
Technically Capable: You have experience with FMIS systems (Finance One is a bonus), and can navigate policy, tax, and audit requirements with ease.
Tertiary qualifications in accounting or finance
Demonstrated success in APS finance leadership roles
Understanding of public sector financial frameworks, accounting standards, tax legislation and policy
Strong analytical, organisational, and strategic planning skills
Australian Citizenship
Baseline Security Clearance (or higher)
Willingness to undergo a Police Check
