The Digital Solutions Division is seeking an experienced leader with strong and modern project delivery and portfolio management experience to lead the division’s IT Portfolio Management Office (PMO).

Directors within the Division operate with a significant degree of independence and work under the broad direction of an Assistant Secretary to deliver quality outcomes while supporting the Program of Work. In performing a leadership role, Directors identify and drive innovation, manage and lead change and have an active role in contributing to and implementing the agency’s strategic direction. We require people who are energetic, critical thinkers, thrive on a challenge and have strong leadership and management skills. 

The key duties of the position include:

Responsibilities of the EL2 IT PMO Director may include:

  • Using a collaborative and positive approach, look for opportunities to increase efficiency, quality and performance in DSD’s digital delivery and associated processes to drive effective delivery of policy outcomes.
  • Proactively identify and implement governance, process and system improvements that support appropriate rigor in overseeing DSD’s significant program of work, whilst maintaining strong communication channels with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Approach change wholistically to drive continuous improvement while addressing the context, pace and priority of each opportunity and to take staff on the journey to embedding positive change.
  • Develop and coach staff, both in the IT PMO and across DSD, to embed a positive and collaborative culture with clear and consistent communication, expectations and discipline. Within the IT PMO, supervise staff and the team to drive excellence and improvement, manage performance and delegate responsibility.
  • Engage and influence senior leadership by explaining complex information, raising approaches to address program of work and project challenges, and presenting opportunities for improvement to create a shared sense of purpose in driving the desired digital delivery behaviours.
  • Write, review and advise on a range of written reporting, briefs and corporate documentation to provide clear and concise strategic advice and narrative, and reporting tailored to internal and external stakeholders. 
Eligibility

Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.

This is a designated security assessed position. The successful candidate will have the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance. 

This selection process may be used to establish a merit pool. The pool might be accessed to fill ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies for similar roles in the Department over the next 18 months.
