We are strengthening our capabilities and ensuring that each function receives the focused attention and resources it needs, whilst enhancing our organisational effectiveness and supporting our ongoing commitment to excellence. This newly scoped role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Governance and Legal leader to join our SCS Executive Team. The successful applicant will apply their deep knowledge, and extensive experience, as a senior legal officer in a medium-large organisation to lead a professional team. This executive role will operationalise SCS’ new strategic plan and expertly manage the governance and legal functional teams to work effectively to deliver on organisational priorities and provide a quality service to SCS staff, students and families. The role oversees SCS’ Board coordination and support, and the management of current legal matters. It will be imperative for the Director to work collaboratively within, and across, the organisation as the legal team is an important, and critical, resource that supports, and advises, all directorates and schools. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: providing executive leadership for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, frameworks, policies, systems and processes to deliver improved outcomes relating to Governance and Legal accountabilitiesproviding authoritative advice on complex and/or sensitive legal matters and overseeing the provision of a range of legal services spanning education, commercial and property law, contract management, administrative law, information access and privacy, copyright and intellectual property, family law, interaction of canon law within SCS, disputes and litigationengaging critical stakeholders in the management of SCS' Legal Compliance Frameworkadvising on enterprise governance structures to ensure effective governance of the organisation and enable effective decision-makingleading the delivery and maintenance of effective Board and Board sub committee governance frameworks and the development and implementation of operational strategies to facilitate sound corporate governance for the Board and its subcommitteesdelivering training in key governance and legal focus areasleading a team of professionals to work collaboratively and prioritise professional growth and developmentbeing contactable and available out of work hours to respond to urgent mattersensuring all work activities align with SCS’ vision, mission, values and Capability Frameworkreporting all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct to the line manager and the SCS Child Safety team. About You To be successful in this position, you will have the following: postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learningat least 10 years post qualified experience in a similar legal and/or governance role, working in a medium-large organisation in education, academia, consulting, not-for-profit or similar environmentdemonstrated leadership success in a similar role with a strong background in influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skillsdeep and contemporary knowledge of educational governance and lawa high level of competence in managing legal matters and investigationsdemonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplined teamdemonstrated knowledge, experience and passion for leading transformational change to improve outcomesdemonstrated ability and willingness to challenge existing processes and structures and explore contemporary working methodsdemonstrated success in working cooperatively and collaboratively at executive levelan unrestricted Practicing Certificatedemonstrated evidence of an ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church, including practising your faith and engaging in the life of a Catholic faith community, such as a parish, as an expression of your relationship with Jesus Christan ability to demonstrate and represent the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools through personal and professional conductproficiency in Google Suitea current driver’s licence and access to a car.
