The Printing Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining digital printing machines, ensuring high-quality output for a variety of printed products. The role involves conducting pre flight checks, managing job production, and performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal machine performance. 

The machinist will also assist with finishing processes and handle customer inquiries. Key Responsibilities:

Digital Printing Operations: 

  • Operate Heidelberg C7100 and Fuji Revoria Press EC1100 and PC1120 digital printing machines
  • Conduct pre-flight checks on digital files using Adobe Software and print proofs
  • Calibrate colour settings to ensure accurate and consistent colour reproduction

Machine Maintenance:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including changing drums, filling toner, and cleaning presses
  • Set up and adjust substrate-feed mechanisms, delivery mechanisms, inking systems, and other printing machine functions. o Undertake maintenance, adjustment, repair, and cleaning of machines to ensure continuous operation

Production Management:

  • Manage job production, ensuring all projects meet deadlines
  • Monitor machine operations and evaluate print quality standards against proofs
  • Handle the preparation and loading/unloading of raw materials onto machines. 

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain physical inventories of printing supplies such as toners, drums, and stock
  • Monitor and regulate the supply of paper and ink during print runs

Layout and Design:

  • Perform layout and typesetting for brochures, booklets, posters, and business cards
  • Produce and manage digital print images, transferring and outputting images as required

Finishing Operations:

  • Assist in binding, collating, folding, finishing, and operating basic guillotines
  • Set up and operate paper and bookbinding guillotines as needed

Customer Service:

  • Handle phone and email inquiries, providing excellent customer service.

Qualifications: • Certificate III in Printing • Strong understanding of print production processes and pre-press techniques. • Proficiency in Adobe Software for pre-flight checks and layout design. • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. • Mechanical aptitude with experience in machine maintenance and troubleshooting. • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. • Strong communication skills for customer service and team collaboration.
