Who we are
The People, Strategy and Safety Branch
is the centre of capability identification, acquisition, mobilisation and development in the department and supports the department to achieve its complex agenda through a highly capable, diverse and inclusive workforce. We provide valuable support and guidance to business areas through our closely connected sections: Health, Safety and Welfare Strategy and Systems; Health, Safety and Welfare Operations; Establishments and HR Reporting; Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion; Leadership, Learning and; Workforce Strategy, Planning and Design.

The Leadership, Learning and Development (LL&D) Team leads the department’s central learning and development function, supporting departmental capability uplift and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and growth. The team provides subject matter expertise in designing and implementing corporate development programs to build capability and enhance performance. By collaborating with stakeholders across the department, the team works across the branch to drive strategies that support talent development and prepare our workforce for future challenges. The LL&D team is also responsible for administering the department’s Learning Management System, Learnhub. 

You will be joining a team that works closely with stakeholders to build strong and trusting relationships across the department by delivering high-quality learning and development solutions, fostering a culture of continuous learning to ensure our workforce has the capability required to meet our strategic objectives. 

The Job
The Digital Learning Officer will assist the department to meet its organisational needs in the management of the department’s Learning Management System (LMS), Learnhub. The Digital Learning Officer will provide helpdesk support and assist in the analysis, design, development and/or review of learning solutions and products within specified timeframes in the LMS. 

This is a great opportunity to be involved in the department’s increased focus on building organisational capability, whilst working in a positive and cohesive team environment. 
Key duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Providing accurate, timely, professional customer service including technical helpdesk support to LMS clients and stakeholders via phone and email (Service delivery of support is Monday – Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm).
  • Being a contact point for internal stakeholders by providing advice on how to develop, build and publish clear, concise and logical learning solutions hosted on the LMS.
  • Publishing and maintaining learning products on the LMS in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Promoting accessibility requirements for digital products, including educating content owners about those requirements.
  • Contributing to the team by providing new ideas and identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency of business practices, including implementing new digital innovations.
  • Assisting with maintaining data integrity in the LMS.
  • Running ad-hoc reports as required.
  • Interpreting and analysing data from L&D systems to obtain conclusions based on evidence.
  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures, instructional material, learning policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Undertaking additional procedural, administrative or operational tasks including some research and analysis activities as required.
  • Assisting team members as required where extra resources may be needed to complete an urgent or escalating task.
  • Liaising with the vendor to problem solve system-related issues.
  • Actively participating in team/branch meetings and planning sessions.
Please note that the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

What are we looking for
knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of strategic or operational HR functions, with experience in working with data and HR systems being highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in a customer service and stakeholder management environment.
