This is a full-time opportunity with competitive compensation and benefits. STACK is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The Senior Commissioning Manager will work as part of the STACK Data Centre Australia team and be responsible for the end-to-end technical management of mechanical systems commissioning, including design oversight, start-up, testing, and compliance for mission-critical infrastructure. The role will also include project management of CxA consultants and coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, review, and coordination of mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water systems, and fluid distribution networks to ensure they meet operational, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Perform engineering analysis of thermodynamic and fluid systems to support design validation and commissioning strategies.
  • Provide technical input into the selection of mechanical equipment and systems, ensuring compatibility with engineering principles and performance specifications.
  • Manage projects and commissioning staff in current and upcoming data centre developments, including all commissioning-related contractual and financial aspects in consultation with STACK management.
  • Direct the development and review of detailed test scripts for mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with mechanical engineering standards and operational benchmarks.
  • Ensure all systems are commissioned in accordance with relevant mechanical engineering codes, Australian Standards, and international best practices.
  • Review and approve commissioning documentation, including Cx Levels 4 and 5 test scripts, equipment functional performance tests, and vendor submittals.
  • Attend customer factory witness tests (FWT) and factory acceptance tests (FAT) to verify equipment functionality against mechanical specifications.
  • Oversee vendor coordination and equipment installation with a focus on mechanical system integration and performance.
  • Perform inspections and lead QA/QC efforts to ensure all installed mechanical systems conform to approved design documentation.
  • Supervise mechanical and process plant assembly, erection, testing, and commissioning to ensure adherence to mechanical engineering principles.
  • Liaise with the Operations team to ensure mechanical systems are correctly handed over, operational, and compliant with maintenance standards.
  • Review and interpret mechanical design documentation, including P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and single-line diagrams.
  • Manage commissioning reporting, documentation, and record-keeping consistent with mechanical engineering requirements.
  • Identify and investigate mechanical performance issues or failures during commissioning; implement corrective actions in coordination with design and construction teams.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of mechanical system specifications and standard commissioning practices across the business.
  • Ensure safe work practices are adhered to in line with mechanical safety and design risk assessments.
  • Act as the key point of contact for clients regarding mechanical system performance and compliance throughout the commissioning lifecycle.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to internal staff and consultants on mechanical systems and commissioning best practices.
  • Support design documentation reviews including mechanical specification validation, operational sequence reviews, and equipment compatibility analysis.
  • Contribute to sustainability and energy efficiency efforts by integrating LEED/Greenstar mechanical compliance criteria into commissioning and system performance benchmarks.
  • Provide support to other regional data centre projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical system design, commissioning, or facility engineering within regulated or mission-critical industries (e.g., data centres, hospitals, energy facilities).
  • Demonstrated understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mechanical system performance criteria.
  • Experience with MEP design interpretation, commissioning planning, and mechanical systems integration.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian mechanical engineering standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in the use of Automated Commissioning Management Systems (ACxMS) and standard engineering software tools (AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Project, Excel).
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with stakeholders, contractors, and design teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to travel as required (0–25%).

Compensation Salary Range: AUD $195,000 – $205,000 per annum (exclusive of superannuation). This job description may be subject to ongoing refinement as experience and business needs evolve. Additional responsibilities aligned with mechanical engineering may be assigned by management.
