The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join us as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead our technical and R&D operations. This senior leadership position will drive the strategic development and commercialisation of Voltavate’s proprietary technology, ensuring alignment with our business and sustainability goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementing lab and pilot-scale operations to develop, test, and optimise Voltavate’s battery separator technology for commercialisation
  • Designing and reviewing chemical process systems and selecting appropriate materials and equipment to meet performance, safety, and cost targets
  • Lead and mentor the R&D and engineering teams.
  • Conducting electrochemical testing, analysing data, and validating product performance against design and industry standards
  • Monitoring and maintaining equipment to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable operation, and implementing corrective actions where required
  • Developing and improving fabrication procedures to align with production, quality, and performance objectives
  • Collaborating with universities, suppliers, and industry partners to evaluate and integrate suitable materials and emerging technologies
  • Managing intellectual property protection and preparing technical documentation for grants, investors, and stakeholders
  • Representing Voltavate in technical discussions with investors and partners, and at industry events to support business growth and innovation

Qualifications & Skills Required:

  • PhD/Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering (or related field).
  • Minimum 4–6 years of relevant technical experience in battery technology or nanomaterials.
  • Proven expertise in electrochemical energy storage, nanofibre engineering, and advanced materials.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in deep-tech startups or scale-up environments.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory compliance for lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
