Task & responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and manage diverse menu offerings, considering seasonal ingredient availability, dietary preferences, and budgetary constraints to ensure efficient kitchen operations and exceptional food quality.
  • Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of high-quality dishes, maintaining consistency in flavor, texture, portion size, and visual appeal.
  • Accurately estimate and manage food and labor costs, implementing cost-effective practices to support profitability while maintaining quality standards.
  • Source and order fresh ingredients and essential kitchen supplies, effectively managing inventory to prevent shortages and minimize waste.
  • Oversee all stages of food preparation and plating, ensuring that presentation and quality meet established standards.
  • Enforce compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations as set by Australian food industry standards.
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff in correct cooking methods, food handling, and sanitation procedures, fostering a skilled and efficient team.
  • Collaborate with management, front-of-house staff, and kitchen personnel to resolve operational issues and enhance service delivery.
  • Organize daily preparation schedules and allocate tasks to streamline kitchen workflows, especially during peak service times.
  • Apply proper food preservation and storage techniques to maintain freshness and reduce spoilage.
  • Provide mentorship and hands-on training to junior chefs and cooks, supporting professional growth and consistency in kitchen practices.
  • Conduct routine kitchen inspections and quality assurance checks to ensure adherence to culinary standards.
  • Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of kitchen team members.


Qualification & experience

  • Proven experience as a Chef or similar role in a high-volume kitchen.  
  • Relevant qualification in commercial cookery
  • A culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred.  
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills.  
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, kitchen equipment, and cooking techniques.  
  • Creative flair and passion for food with a keen eye for detail.  
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment
