What are we looking for?

We are offering a permanent full-time position to an experienced carpenter with demonstrated skills in fabricatingconstructing, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures and fittings of wood, plywood, lightweight steel, wallboard and other materials. The applicant will be working across many job sites across South Australia.

Task & responsibilities

What does the job look like?

The position will suit a candidate who is skilled in collaborating with fellow construction professionals to ensure high quality work on a variety of exciting projects across South Australia and who is experienced in working in an environment that requires close attention to detail. 

  • Fabricating, constructing, and repairing structural woodwork and wood products by following drawings, specifications, and oral instructions, using carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Producing carpentry products and services by following standards and procedures, measuring results against standards and making necessary adjustments.
  • Determining material requirements and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated by studying specifications, sketches, or building plans.
  • Maintaining carpentry supplies by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Constructing, repairing and installing structure or fixture by marking cutting and assembly lines on materials.
  • Shaping materials to measurements, assembling and fastening cut and shaped materials, and using carpenter’s hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
  • Installing roofing structures, sheeting, doors windows skirting boards and architraves.
  • Fitting fascia boards, eaves and soffits to complete roof edges and applying exterior cladding systems.
  • Ensuring weatherproofing and sealing of external features.
  • Ensuring construction quality by verifying trueness of structure and correct measurement.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local building codes by adhering to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserving carpentry resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Ensuring operation of carpentry equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Following manufacturer’s instruction, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Providing suitable mentoring and supervision of apprentices, including provision of carpentry information by answering questions.

Qualification & experience

  • Carpentry Trade Qualifications
  • Strong construction experience preferred
