Frequently Asked Questions
Arborists assess tree health, perform pruning and removal work, and manage risks associated with trees near buildings or infrastructure. The role often involves tree climbing, chainsaw operation and using specialised rigging equipment.
A Certificate III in Arboriculture is generally required, along with chainsaw and elevated work platform tickets depending on the role. Practical climbing experience is highly valued by employers.
Arborists are employed by local councils, tree service companies, utilities and landscaping businesses. Demand remains steady given the ongoing need for tree maintenance and vegetation management near infrastructure.
Many arborists progress into senior climber, crew supervisor or consulting arborist roles as they build experience and further qualifications. Completing a Diploma of Arboriculture can support a move into consulting or management positions.
