$80,000 - $90,000 Annual

The Welder will be responsible for fabricating, joining and repairing metal products and components using a range of welding techniques. The role involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, preparing and cutting metal materials, aligning parts accurately, performing welding work to required standards, and inspecting completed welds for quality, strength, penetration and precision.

Task & responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, fabrication details and structural steel specifications for precast concrete and modular construction projects. 
  • Fabricating, assembling and welding structural steel components, frames, brackets and reinforcement structures used in precast concrete systems. 
  • Performing MIG, TIG and arc welding on structural steel and metal components in accordance with Australian Standards and project requirements. 
  • Preparing metal materials by cutting, measuring, grinding, bevelling and aligning components prior to welding operations. 
  • Welding steel components used in precast concrete panels, modular housing systems, infrastructure products and structural steel assemblies. 
  • Inspecting welded joints and finished products to ensure structural integrity, dimensional accuracy and compliance with quality standards. 
  • Repairing and maintaining damaged or defective metal structures, steel frames and fabricated components. 
  • Operating fabrication equipment, welding machinery, grinders, cutting tools and lifting equipment safely and efficiently. 
  • Grinding, cleaning and finishing welded surfaces to achieve required tolerances and presentation standards.

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Welding) or a related qualification, or at least 1 year of relevant work experience 
  • Proven experience in welding and metal fabrication using MIG, TIG, or Arc welding techniques 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications 
  • Strong knowledge of welding methods, materials, and safety procedures 
  • Good attention to detail with a high standard of workmanship 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety (WHS) practices
