Modvue Creations Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced and skilled Welder (First Class) to join our team in Bayswater, Melbourne. Modvue Creations operates two complementary business arms — a signage business and a metal fabrication business — both of which rely on high-quality welding and metalwork to deliver finished products to clients across Victoria. We have built a strong reputation for craftsmanship, reliability and consistent quality across both signage and structural fabrication projects.

About the Role

The Welder (First Class) will fabricate and repair metal products using various welding techniques in support of both Modvue Creations' signage and fabrication operations. The role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, work with a range of metals, and produce welds of high structural and aesthetic quality suitable for both architectural signage products and general fabrication output.

Key Responsibilities

• Studying blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.
• Selecting, cleaning and preparing metal stock.
• Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines.
• Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering.
• Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments.
• Joining metal sections using various welding techniques, bolting and riveting.
• Examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision.
• Cleaning and smoothing welds by filing, chiselling and grinding.
• Finishing products by cleaning, polishing, filing and bathing in acidic solutions.
• Fabricating, welding and assembling metal components for signage products including frames, mounts, brackets, structural supports and architectural signage elements.
• Fabricating, welding and assembling metal components for general fabrication projects in accordance with engineering drawings and Australian Standards.
• Maintaining welding tools, equipment and the workshop in clean, safe and operational condition.
• Following all workplace health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Working collaboratively with fabricators, signage installers, supervisors and other tradespeople to ensure smooth daily operations across both business arms.

Essential Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (AQF) with at least two years of on-the-job training, or Certificate IV (AQF), or equivalent overseas qualification recognised in Australia.
• Minimum 1–3 years of relevant post-qualification experience as a Welder (First Class).
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, MMAW and gas welding processes across a range of metals including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and welding symbols.
• Sound knowledge of welding tools, fabrication equipment and Australian welding standards.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Availability for an immediate start.

Desirable

• Experience welding for signage or architectural metalwork projects.
• Experience in a fabrication workshop environment.
• Forklift licence or experience operating workshop machinery.
