About the role

Take on a role that drives real impact by strengthening how we understand and manage waste services.  This opportunity blends hands-on fieldwork with analytical insight, conducting site audits, validating data, and improving the accuracy of critical systems like COMPASS and WasteEdge.

You’ll play a key role in shaping a single, trusted source of waste data, ensuring records are accurate, aligned, and reliable.  Through your attention to detail and problem-solving mindset, you’ll help deliver smarter decisions, better services, and stronger outcomes for the community.

Why join Team Melbourne?

Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.

We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.

This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

About you

You’re a detail-focused and proactive professional who enjoys combining hands-on work with data analysis. With a keen eye for accuracy, you’re confident identifying inconsistencies, problem-solving, and maintaining reliable records across systems. You take ownership of your work, stay organised, and bring a practical mindset to improving data quality and supporting better service outcomes.

What your experience might look like

  • Strong ability to analyse data, identify issues, and resolve root causes, with proficiency in spreadsheets, databases or GIS; experience with WasteEdge or similar systems.
  • Proven experience conducting field-based inspections or audits, including the ability to assess, document and report on physical site conditions accurately and independently.
  • A high level of initiative and independence, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing workloads across field and desktop activities with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of waste management principles and practices necessary to support accurate service delivery and data integrity within a municipal context.
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence.

Benefits of working with us

  • Attractive remuneration & benefits: Excellent pay package with a range of exciting benefits. Flexible working, study assistance & other great corporate discounts.
  • Excellent leave entitlements: Enjoy up to 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary carers, in addition to the government-funded parental leave, with no waiting period to access. Part-time equivalents are also available for added flexibility.
