Fairfield Road Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full-time Veterinary Surgeon.
The remuneration is AU$90,000 – AU$100,000 per annum plus superannuation.
- Conducting routine and emergency clinical consultations, including first-response assessment, triage and stabilisation of companion animals presenting with illness, injury or distress
- Performing comprehensive physical examinations and determining the presence and nature of abnormal conditions through clinical evaluation, diagnostic reasoning and interpretation of laboratory results
- Utilising diagnostic imaging techniques, including radiography and ultrasound, to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
- Prescribing, administering and monitoring the use of pharmaceuticals, analgesics, vaccines and general and local anaesthetics in accordance with veterinary standards and regulatory requirements
- Performing soft tissue surgical procedures, including routine desexing of male and female animals and other elective and non-elective surgeries within a general practice setting
- Providing peri-operative and post-operative care, including pain management, wound management, dressing changes and monitoring of patient recovery
- Managing hospitalised and admitted animals, including developing treatment plans, monitoring progress, adjusting therapies and ensuring continuity of care
- Providing reproductive and obstetric care appropriate to a general practice context, including the management of pregnancy-related conditions and assistance with parturition where required
- Diagnosing, treating and managing medical conditions across a range of clinical disciplines, including internal medicine and preventative healthcare
- Inoculating animals against infectious diseases, conducting disease screening and testing, and implementing biosecurity and infection control protocols
- Participating in preventative health programs designed to reduce the occurrence and spread of animal diseases within the clinic and the wider community
- Advising pet owners on animal health, nutrition, hygiene, behaviour and long-term care, including preventative and wellness strategies
- Reviewing clinical cases and providing professional input and support to veterinary colleagues and nursing staff as directed by senior veterinarians
- Maintaining accurate and compliant medical records, clinical notes and treatment documentation in accordance with professional and legal standards
- Contributing to the delivery of high-quality veterinary services in a clinical environment, including participation in after-hours and urgent care services as required
Qualifications
- University qualification in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine at bachelor degree level or higher
- Hold current registration, or be eligible for registration, as a veterinarian in Australia
Experience
- A minimum of one year of post-qualification experience practising as a veterinarian
Skills
- Conducting veterinary consultations, including clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning
- Performing soft tissue surgical procedures
- Provision of comprehensive clinical medicine services, including case management and patient care
