Our client owns and operates assets worth over $3.6 billion comprising the ACT’s network of dams, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations, mains and other related infrastructure.
The OpportunityThis role has primary responsibility for the management of a large, Canberra based utilities water meter fleet including strategy, asset planning, maintenance, replacement, innovation and customer service to support accurate customer billing.
As a leader within the team, this position will be managing a team of nine multi-disciplinary staff and working with your team to identify optimisation and efficiency opportunities, as well as working with a community of Canberra residential, commercial and government customers.

The RoleIn this role, you will oversee the full lifecycle management of water metering assets and related functions, ensuring compliance with agreed standards, risk frameworks, and continuous improvement practices.
Your key responsibilities will involve:
- Leading the planning and coordination of the water meter works program (planned and reactive), including compliance testing activities, meter replacement criteria, performance targets and metrics
- Providing technical advice and operational support to the Key Accounts and Revenue Assurance Team
- Providing technical input and operational oversight of water meter management systems, including data quality management, remediation activities, system enhancements, and integration with related systems
- Leading the coordination and delivery of water loss performance monitoring and reporting for the water supply system
- Supervising the metering team responsible for the delivery of day-to-day operational activities, including:
- Meter related customer complaint investigations
- Meter defect identification and investigations
- Issuing of meters and meter inspections
- Meter reading and remote meter reading support (including alarms and alerts)
- Backflow prevention compliance
- Metered standpipes management
- Capital works support
- Meter data management, analysis, and reporting
The Ideal PersonWe are seeking suitable candidates with tertiary qualifications in Engineering and experience relating to water networks and metering, and associated technical standards.
Ideally you will have:
- Significant experience in the development and implementation of asset management plans for specific assets
- Expertise in workplace health and safety, risk management and regulatory compliance within an operational or asset management environment
- Experience in negotiating and managing internal and external service agreements
- Financial knowledge relating to asset management and service provision costing and budgeting
- Demonstrated experience in leading, supervising and developing teams, including performance management, coaching and capability development
- Planning, prioritising and coordination skills, aligned to work programs which achieve organisational objectives
