Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Carpenter or Leading Hand Carpenter with a minimum 10 years’ experience to join our busy team on a subcontract basis.
You will be responsible for a variety of building insurance repair projects, working closely with other trades and apprentices, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Location of Work: Newcastle-Hunter, Lake Macquarie, and Central Coast Regions.
Hours Available & Rate: We can offer 38+ hours a week, with 8+ hours per day from Monday to Friday, along with Saturdays. Must be able to work Saturdays as required. The Hourly Rate is based on experience.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Complete carpentry works for insurance repairs in residential and commercial settings
Collaborate with other trades (plumbers, electricians, plasterers, painters) to deliver seamless project outcomes
Supervise and mentor apprentices on site
Communicate daily with staff to update on tasks and project progress, ensuring schedules are maintained
Collect and transport materials as per itemised scope of work for each job
Read and interpret building plans and scopes of work
Ensure all work complies with the National Construction Code and WHS&E obligations
Coordinate and direct subcontractors across various trades as required
High customer service to liaise directly with Clients
Required Experience & Skills
Detailed knowledge of carpentry and building trade, with a focus on residential building
Solid experience in fit-outs, renovations, and repair work (e.g., kitchen and cabinetry removals, reinstalls, and replacements; including complete bathroom renovations)
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proven experience in fast-paced residential and/or commercial environments
Effective communication skills for engaging with clients and multiple trades
Experience coordinating and directing subcontractors (highly regarded)
Previous leading hand and insurance work experience is advantageous but not essential
General knowledge of the National Construction Code
Strong understanding of WHS&E requirements
Qualifications & Licenses (Mandatory)
Certificate III in Carpentry
Contractor's License
Current Driver's License
White Card
Additional Mandatory Requirements
Own tools and reliable vehicle (a vehicle that can transport materials is mandatory)
Current ABN
Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Relevant insurances: Personal Accident, Public Liability, Professional Indemnity
