Stonemason

The Stonemason will be responsible for carrying out high-quality stonework across a range of projects, including construction, restoration, and monumental masonry. The role involves cutting, shaping, and polishing hard and soft stone blocks, constructing stone structures, and ensuring all work meets design specifications and safety standards. The position requires technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Task & responsibilities

• Study plans and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, and installation procedures.
• Cut, shape, and polish hard and soft stone blocks and masonry slabs using machines and hand tools.
• Construct and renovate stone structures, monumental masonry, and large masonry slab block walls.
• Spread layers of mortar to serve as base and binder, and embed blocks in mortar.
• Check alignment of stonework to ensure accuracy.
• Repair and maintain stone, brick, and masonry structures.
• Design and cut monumental masonry and lettering when required.
• Follow workplace health and safety standards at all times.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate III in Stonemasonry
• At least 1 year of work experience is required
• Proven ability to cut, shape and construct stone structures to a high standard.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Registration or licensing (if required) will be highly regarded.
