accesstel is a growing technology company delivering cloud-based and embedded solutions to customers across the telecommunications and energy sectors. We have recently been acquired by Battery Energy, which is opening exciting new opportunities for our products and our team. We are a small but high-performing group who take real pride in the work we do — and the people we do it with.
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Software Engineering team as we scale our cloud platform. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone with around 4–6 years of experience who is ready to take ownership of meaningful work and collaborate closely with a small, self-managing team.
You will work across the full stack on our cloud platform, contributing to architecture discussions, delivering high-quality features, and helping to shape engineering practices as the team grows. There is a natural path toward mentoring and technical leadership for the right person, though the immediate focus is on building and shipping great software.
We offer a hybrid work arrangement, with flexibility to work from home and in our Melbourne office.
You will be responsible for:
Designing, developing, and maintaining web applications using modern frameworks and technologies
Contributing to the architecture of our cloud platform with a focus on scalability, performance, and security
Collaborating with team members, the wider accesstel business, customers, and partners to deliver high-quality software solutions
Participating in technical discussions and helping to drive good engineering practices
Reviewing code and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement
Ensuring software quality through unit testing, integration testing, and automation
Staying current on industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to our platform
Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues
Skills and Experience
4–6 years of experience in web application or cloud platform development
Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including HTML and CSS
Solid experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React
Strong back-end development skills in Node.js or similar
Experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and microservices architecture
Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
Meaningful experience with cloud platforms — AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud — including cloud-native services and deployment patterns
Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
Experience with containerisation using Docker and/or Kubernetes
Comfortable working in an Agile environment
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi
Knowledge of cloud security, IAM, and observability/monitoring practices
Experience with testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha, or Cypress
Knowledge of web performance optimisation and accessibility standards
Background in or exposure to energy management, electrical systems, or IoT
Experience working in small, high-trust engineering teams
We are a small team, so the people we hire matter a great deal. Beyond the technical skills, we are looking for someone who:
Takes ownership of their work and cares about delivering outcomes, not just completing tickets
Communicates well and works collaboratively — with their teammates, with customers, and across the business
Is naturally curious and enjoys finding the best solution to a problem, not just the easiest one
Thrives in a small team environment where everyone’s contribution is visible and valued
Is interested in growing their career over time — we actively support development toward mentoring and technical leadership
