About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Grade 4 Social Worker to join Unit 2 on a part-time ongoing basis (0.5 EFT), bringing advanced clinical expertise and leadership to the youth inpatient mental health space.

This role is ideal for a passionate and experienced clinician who thrives in complex mental health settings and is committed to achieving positive discharge outcomes for young people experiencing mental illness.

As the Grade 4 Social Worker, you will play a key leadership role within the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist psychosocial assessment, discharge planning expertise, clinical supervision, and education to Social Workers, including students and graduate clinicians. You will work collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and community services to support recovery-focused care and safe transitions back into the community.

This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership capability while contributing to innovative and patient-centred mental health care within a highly supportive team environment.

About Us

Unit 2 sits within Monash Health's Infant, Child, Family and Youth Mental Health Service and is a specialised 25-bed inpatient unit located at Dandenong Hospital, supporting consumers aged 18-25 experiencing mental illness. The unit includes up to eight intensive care area beds and 17 designated low dependency beds, allowing us to support varying levels of acuity through comprehensive assessment, treatment, discharge planning, and community engagement.

Our multidisciplinary team is passionate about delivering flexible, developmentally responsive, and recovery-oriented care to young people and their families. Through therapeutic interventions, collaborative care planning, and strong community partnerships, we support consumers to build coping strategies, improve wellbeing, and transition safely back into the community.

Unit 2 is recognised for its strong focus on access, flow, and quality care, receiving positive feedback from consumers, families, and carers alike.

About You

You are an experienced and compassionate Mental Health Social Worker with a strong commitment to youth mental health, recovery-oriented practice, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

You will bring:

  • Extensive clinical experience within mental health, ideally in an inpatient or similar acute setting

  • Experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring, and education to clinicians and students
  • A collaborative and adaptable approach to working within multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A passion for supporting young people and their families through complex mental health journeys
  • Commitment to evidence-based and person-centred practice
