The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) delivers specialist security and emergency response services across Victoria’s correctional system.
SESG respond to incidents and emergencies, support high-security escorts, conduct search operations, operate specialist security equipment and assist with barrier control across correctional facilities statewide.
Note this role is based in Lara with occasional travel to Metro Melbourne.
About the role
As a Senior Prison Officer – SESG, you will work as part of a highly trained specialist response team helping to maintain the safety and security of the prison.
In this role, you will:
Respond to incidents and emergencies across correctional facilities
Participate in security operations including escorts, searches, patrols and barrier control
Operate specialist security equipment
Prepare reports and contribute to intelligence gathering activities
Work as part of a highly trained, professional response team
Support a safe and positive workplace culture
This role involves shift work, including weekends and public holidays. The role also may involve working alongside SESG canine teams.
About you
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
experience in working in safety or security, or some understanding of SESGs operations and procedures
a level of fitness that would withstand a physically demanding role
strong teamwork and communication skills
a high level of professionalism and accountability
the ability to remain calm under pressure
Eligibility requirements
To apply, you must:
Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident
Hold a current Victorian driver licence (minimum P2)
Be clean shaven when operationally required to safely wear breathing apparatus
First Aid certification will be required prior to commencement. All other training is provided.
Fitness requirements
The Senior Prison Officer - SESG is a physically demanding role. As part of the recruitment process, candidates will complete physical fitness testing. This will consist of 3 intense stages. Some of these tests may involve wearing a gas mask. To best prepare, ensure you can complete:
6.5 on a beep test
1 min 15 second wall sit
20 cadence push-ups
20 cadence sit-ups
1 min 30 second prone bridge plank
lift and squat 20kg x 20 reps
