Saltair is a multi-award-winning builder based in Coolum Beach, Sunshine Coast and Crestmead, Brisbane. We are currently experiencing significant growth in both our commercial and residential markets, and are looking to welcome an experienced estimator to our team. The Estimator would lead the identification, estimation and the submission of tenders across our commercial projects. They would be supported by our procurement / estimating team but will also be heavily involved in the estimating of the project. We regard this as a senior role in the business with continuous engagement with the MD and senior management team, and are willing to negotiate based on experience.

Saltair typically handles all aspects of a project; from Concept Design, Reports, Detailed Design, Building Approvals, Construction and Final Turnkey certification. The Estimator would be supported by an experienced team as you come up to speed with our simple yet effective systems and processes.

The Role

• Sourcing and Identifying key tenders that align with the business direction using established platforms

• Co-ordinating with the MD and Business Development Manager to evaluate commercial leads and develop proposals.

• Reviewing and assessing tenders to determine which tenders / proposals will be targeted

• Lead in the Estimating and cost planning of tenders / proposals with the support of the estimator 

• Understanding modular design and project site conditions to ensure projects are costed effectively 

• Identification and valuing of VE opportunities to assist in securing a tender

• Co-ordinating with design team to convey tender requirements for tender designs

• Reviewing contract documentation and taking the lead in developing tender exclusions and clarifications to manage the business risk.

• Submission and review of tender RFI's and addenda

• Managing tender clarifications and negotiation until the project is secured. 

• Undertaking detailed project take offs for supplier and subcontractor engagement   

• Working with the Procurement manager to liaise and engage with supplier's and subcontractors to ensure adequate trade coverage for tenders 

• Working with the Estimator, Procurement and Construction Managers to maintain and build the business's schedule of rates to assist in future tenders. 

• Building new and strong relationships with supplier and subcontractors  

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate;

• Experience in compiling tenders in compliance with tender documentation crucial. 

• Experience is civil estimating would be beneficial.

• Experience in quoting, compiling and comparing trade and supplier packages essential. 

• Ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors 

• Passionate and self-driven to look for cost efficiencies at all times

• Genuine enthusiasm to identify alternative procurement methods 

• Track record of at least 3+ years in the construction industry

• Advanced ability to write professional proposals and communications. 

• Fully capable in Microsoft Suite ( Word, Excel, Project, Power point)

• Experience with Costx is essential

• Quantity surveyor experience beneficial

• Experience in modular nice but not essential
