About the Role

Due to an internal transfer, Peabody is seeking a Senior Accountant – Operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager Financial and Operations Accounting, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely financial results across Peabody’s mining and physical trading operations.

This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on month-end accounting, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and IFRS, and contributing to key reporting and governance activities. The position has no direct reports and is well suited to a detail-oriented financial accountant who enjoys working through complex accounting and operational matters.

What You Will Do

• Execute month-end close processes including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Support accounting for mining operations including coal sales (CSP), freight, port charges, and other operational costs.
• Assist with joint venture reporting and preparation of management reports (SAP extraction and Excel analysis).
• Contribute to financial reporting, including SEC deliverables and compliance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with SOX controls, US GAAP and IFRS, and liaise with internal and external auditors.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes and procedures.

This position is offered on a Monday to Friday basis, working from our Fortitude Valley office with flexible start/finish times and a redistributed working week giving employees the option to finish at noon on Fridays.  

About You

You are a technically strong and detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a complex corporate environment and enjoys working collaboratively across teams.

We are looking for someone who has:

• CA or CPA qualification (Big 4 background highly regarded)
• Strong experience in month-end accounting, including journals and reconciliations
• Experience working in a large, complex organisation
• Solid understanding of IFRS and US GAAP
• Hands-on experience with SAP and strong Excel capability
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities

(Mining or resources experience is highly regarded but not essential)
