Armidale Ventures Pty Ltd, trading as Wagon Wheel Cafe & Friendly Grocer, is seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to lead and oversee day-to-day operations of our store located in Surat, QLD. Task & responsibilities

• Determine product mix, stock levels and service standards to meet customer expectations and maximise sales performance.
• Formulate and implement purchasing and marketing policies, and set retail prices in line with the Friendly Grocer banner group guidelines.
• Promote and advertise the store’s goods and services, including managing catalogue specials, in-store promotions, and social media presence.
• Sell goods and services to customers and advise on product use, ensuring an exceptional customer experience across both the grocery and cafe operations.
• Maintain accurate records of stock levels and financial transactions, including daily reconciliation of sales and cash handling.
• Undertake budgeting of revenue and expenses, monitor financial performance against targets, and implement strategies to improve profitability.
• Manage the full recruitment lifecycle including selection, rostering, training, and ongoing supervision of retail and cafe staff.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant retail regulations, including Occupational Health & Safety (WHS), food safety standards, and liquor licensing requirements where applicable.
• Coordinate store presentation, visual merchandising, and maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the store and cafe.
• Liaise with suppliers, the Friendly Grocer buying group, and local community stakeholders to strengthen business relationships and drive store performance.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma or higher in Business Management, Retail Management, or Hospitality Management.
• Must be a team player and have at least 1 year full time or equivalent working  experience preferably of managing the operations of a retail store or similar establishment, including staff supervision, stock management, and budget oversight.
• Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate a team and foster a positive, customer-focused workplace culture.
• Sound financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, expense management, and reading retail performance reports.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine passion for customer service.
• Competence in point-of-sale (POS) systems, stock management software, and general computer applications.
• Knowledge of Work Health & Safety legislation and food safety regulations relevant to retail and food service environments.
• A self-motivated, problem-solving attitude with the ability to work autonomously in a regional location.
