Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of our butchery and retail store. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing staff, maintaining optimal stock levels of fresh meat and grocery products, enhancing customer satisfaction, and ensuring the overall profitability of the business. A solid understanding of retail and food handling operations, combined with a proactive and hands-on leadership style, are essential for success in this role.

Task & responsibilities

• Manage the daily operations of the butchery store, ensuring smooth workflow across meat preparation, product display, customer service, and order fulfilment.
• Oversee procurement and stock rotation of fresh halal meat cuts (lamb, goat, beef, and poultry) as well as South Asian and Middle Eastern grocery lines, maintaining consistent availability and freshness.
• Supervise, train, and roster butchery and retail staff, fostering a productive team environment aligned with the business's customer service standards.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, cold chain requirements, and meat handling standards as prescribed by the NSW Food Authority.
• Manage in-store sales alongside online orders and same-day delivery operations, ensuring accurate order fulfilment and timely dispatch with appropriate packaging.
• Monitor inventory levels, analyse sales trends, and make informed purchasing decisions to minimise wastage and meet customer demand.
• Maintain high standards of store presentation, cleanliness, and hygiene across all preparation, storage, and display areas.
• Handle customer enquiries, resolve complaints professionally, and build lasting relationships with the local community to strengthen customer loyalty.
• Liaise with meat suppliers to ensure consistent quality, ethical sourcing practices, and reliable stock supply.
• Work closely with the business owner on pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, budgeting, and overall business performance reporting.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree, or higher qualification is essential for eligibility.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in a retail management role.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Sound understanding of retail sales, inventory control, food safety, and customer service best practices.
• Experience in a butchery, fresh food, or food retail environment is highly regarded.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make effective decisions under pressure.
