Essential Skills and Knowledge:

• Demonstrated expertise in fresh produce quality assessment across a broad range of fruit and vegetable categories.
• In-depth knowledge of wholesale produce markets, seasonal supply cycles, and pricing dynamics.
• Strong negotiation skills with proven experience managing supplier and grower relationships.
• Sound understanding of food safety, handling, and storage requirements for fresh produce.
• Proficiency in analysing sales data, stock reports, and market intelligence to inform purchasing decisions.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced wholesale market environment with early morning operating hours.

Task & responsibilities

• Sourcing and Procurement: Identifying growers and wholesalers for the best quality and yield of fresh produce.
• Price Negotiation: Agreeing on cost, bulk volume, and trading terms with suppliers.
• Inventory and Quality Control: Analyzing sales data to forecast seasonal demand and ensure produce is fresh and adheres to company standards.
• Market Strategy: Planning visual displays, pricing strategies, and seasonal promotional campaigns.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
• At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above. 
• At least one year experience required for sponsorship purposes.
