Task & responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Maintain high culinary standards in the preparation and presentation of all tavern menu items.
- Ensure the kitchen operates in a clean, safe, and well-organised manner at all times.
- Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Deliver a consistent and high-quality dining experience to all patrons.
- Comply with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Contribute to maintaining the tavern’s reputation for quality food and service
Main Tasks
- Prepare, season and cook menu items including bistro meals, specials, and function catering in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards.
- Monitor portion control, food quality, and consistency during service periods.
- Set up and stock workstations with necessary ingredients and equipment prior to service.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, preparation areas, and storage facilities in line with food safety standards.
- Coordinate with other chefs and kitchen hands to manage workflow during busy service times.
- Liaise with front-of-house staff regarding menu availability, dietary requirements, and customer feedback.
- Assist with stock rotation, inventory control, and ordering of supplies.
- Ensure safe food handling practices and proper storage of perishable items.
Qualification & experience
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification
- Diploma of Hospitality (desiable but not necessary)
- One year work experience in a commercial kitchen working in fast-paced service periods while maintaining food quality and consistency
- Demonstrated experience preparing and cooking à la carte and function menu item
