Position Summary
Based in Sydney and reporting to the CEO, the National Sports Development Officer (NSDO) is responsible for leading the national basketball operations, curriculum development, coaching standards, and technical growth strategy of NBA Basketball School Australia.
This role combines strategic leadership, hands-on coaching oversight, workforce development, operational execution, and quality control across all hub locations nationally.
The NSDO will serve as the senior technical authority of the organisation and primary basketball operations lead, ensuring consistency, excellence, and alignment with NBA standards.

Task & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and national implementation of the official basketball coaching curriculum, ensuring consistent delivery standards across all program locations.
- Oversee recruitment, training and performance management of coaching staff nationally, including mentoring coaches and maintaining national coaching standards and frameworks.
- Provide on-court leadership and quality control through regular program evaluations, direct coaching delivery and national site visits to ensure high performance and compliance with organisational standards.
- Manage basketball operations and program administration, including coordinating coaching activities, supporting logistics and contributing to tournaments, competitions and player development initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic growth and industry engagement by supporting national expansion, grassroots participation initiatives, stakeholder partnerships and the development of high performance programs.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Domestic and international travel required.
Qualification & experience
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (required).
- Minimum 5 years coaching experience (elite youth level required).
- Minimum 5 years experience in basketball program development and event management.
- Demonstrated leadership of coaching staff and program oversight.
- Strong understanding of international basketball systems and FIBA regulations.
- Experience with NBA, G-League, NBL, or equivalent elite environments highly regarded.
- Proven ability to design and implement structured player development systems.
- Strong organisational and administrative capability.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive).
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
- International experience (U.S. and Australian exposure preferred).
- Fluent English required; additional languages advantageous.
