The Motor Mechanic will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of passenger and light commercial vehicles. Task & responsibilities

Mechanical Diagnosis & Repair

  • Perform comprehensive mechanical inspections, fault diagnoses, and repairs across a broad range of passenger and light commercial vehicles
  • Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, driveline, braking, suspension, steering, and exhaust systems to manufacturer specifications
  • Carry out scheduled and logbook servicing, including oil and filter changes, fluid top-ups, spark plug replacement, timing belt and chain services, and general tune-ups
  • Inspect, test, and replace brake components including pads, rotors, drums, callipers, and brake lines as required
  • Diagnose and service cooling systems, including radiator flushes, hose replacement, thermostat and water pump repairs
  • Carry out tyre rotations, wheel alignments, and tyre replacements as required
  • Use diagnostic scanning tools and equipment to identify fault codes and assist in accurate diagnosis of mechanical and electronic faults

Workshop Operations & Quality

  • Maintain accurate and detailed job cards, service records, and parts documentation for all work completed
  • Ensure all repairs and services are completed to manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and workshop quality requirements
  • Communicate effectively with the Workshop Manager and service advisors regarding job progress, parts requirements, and estimated completion times
  • Liaise with parts suppliers as required to source components and consumables in a timely manner
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised workstation and workshop environment at all times

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to all Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements and safe work procedures at all times
  • Ensure the safe and correct use, storage, and maintenance of all workshop tools, equipment, and machinery
  • Comply with all relevant Victorian road safety legislation, Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) requirements, and workshop compliance obligations
  • Participate in workplace safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training as directed by management

Other Duties

  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior workshop staff and apprentices as required
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Workshop Manager from time to time

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30620) or equivalent recognised automotive trade qualification — essential
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of post-trade experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic in a commercial workshop environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the diagnosis, service, and repair of passenger and light commercial vehicles across a range of makes and models
  • Proficiency in the use of automotive diagnostic scan tools and workshop equipment
  • Sound working knowledge of engine management systems, braking systems, suspension and steering components, and drivetrain systems
  • Current and valid Victorian driver's licence — essential
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to produce accurate, high-quality work consistently and efficiently
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities in a fast-paced workshop environment
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with automotive workshop management software is desirable but not essential
