The Client
Our client operates an established open cut coal mine in the Hunter Valley. The operation is well-resourced, professionally run and has been producing coal for a significant number of years - it is part of the fabric of the region. They have a strong safety culture, a stable and experienced site team and a genuine commitment to developing their engineers into future leaders. This is a permanent full-time, site-based role in the Hunter Valley.
With sustained production targets and ongoing operational activity, they are looking to bring on a Mining Engineer to join their site-based technical team and hit the ground running.
The Role
You'll be a hands-on member of the mine's engineering team, working directly on site to support production, planning and drill & blast activities. You'll work alongside experienced supervisors and engineers in a fast-paced open cut environment where your input genuinely matters day to day.
Key Responsibilities - Support and oversee daily production activities across the open cut operation
- Assist with short-term mine planning and scheduling using industry-standard software
- Coordinate and review drill & blast designs, ensuring compliance with site standards and NSW regulations
- Monitor and report on production KPIs, identifying and acting on opportunities for improvement
- Liaise with geotechnical teams on slope stability and ground control requirements
- Ensure all activities comply with NSW Coal Mining Safety and Health legislation
- Work closely with maintenance, processing and environmental teams to support smooth site operations
About You - Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- 3–7 years of experience in an operational mining environment
- Exposure to open cut operations and/or underground coal mining
- Familiarity with mine planning software
- Sound understanding of NSW mining legislation and safety management systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across operational and technical teams
- Shotfirer or blasting certification advantageous
