ABOUT THE ROLE

The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for supporting site operations through effective preventative maintenance, equipment reliability improvement, and breakdown reduction activities to minimise downtime and maintain production performance.

This role focuses on maintaining plant reliability through preventative and corrective maintenance activities, supporting fault finding and root cause analysis, and assisting with maintenance planning and shutdown execution. The position works closely with Production, QA, and Engineering teams to improve equipment performance, reduce operational disruption, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

The role provides hands-on technical support for production equipment, maintenance systems, and operational troubleshooting activities within a food manufacturing environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Preventative Maintenance & Reliability

  • Execute preventative maintenance activities to ensure plant equipment operates safely and reliably.

  • Support development and continuous improvement of preventative maintenance systems and schedules.

  • Drive equipment efficiency improvements through proactive maintenance and regular performance monitoring.

  • Assist with implementation of maintenance strategies to reduce downtime and improve asset performance.

Breakdown Response & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and support fault finding activities to minimise operational disruption.

  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process equipment issues.

  • Support root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Provide ongoing operational troubleshooting and equipment support across the site.

Shutdown Planning & Maintenance Support

  • Support shutdown planning, coordination, and execution activities.

  • Assist with maintenance scheduling and prioritization of engineering activities.

  • Coordinate maintenance tasks to ensure production requirements and operational priorities are supported.

  • Work collaboratively with Production and QA teams to minimize maintenance-related disruption.

Spare Parts & Maintenance Systems

  • Support Engineering Lead to manage critical spare parts inventory and support spare parts optimisation activities.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and support CMMS data management.

  • Assist with tracking equipment history, maintenance performance, and reliability trends.

  • Support continuous improvement of maintenance systems and engineering documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, uptime, and maintenance effectiveness.

  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with GMP, HACCP, food safety, and site safety requirements.

  • Participate in safety initiatives, audits, and risk assessments as required.

  • Contribute to a culture of operational excellence, safety, and accountability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Engineering qualification, Mechanical Trade Qualification, or related technical qualification

  • Electrical troubleshooting and automation/PLC experience is highly desired

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Experience within a food manufacturing or industrial production environment

  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and reliability principles

  • Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning

  • Experience troubleshooting production and packaging equipment

  • Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled systems

  • Understanding of GMP, HACCP, and food safety requirements

  • Experience supporting shutdowns and maintenance activities
