Harvest Moon grows roughly 70,000 tons of carrots, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, beans, swede, and beetroot annually in and around the township of Forth in northern Tasmania and just outside Narrandera in New South Wales. We operate two other sites on mainland Australia, in Werribee South (Victoria) and Gatton (Queensland). Our mainland growing, production and logistics capabilities give Harvest Moon nationwide exposure through markets and retail networks. Your Role 

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our maintenance team in Forth, Tasmania. As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of various mechanical components and systems within our highly specialised heavy vehicles, tractors and other owned assets. This position requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, hands-on technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of engineers and technicians. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and install mechanical components into our highly specialised heavy vehicles. Ensure that all components are integrated correctly and meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Perform diagnostics and root cause analysis on mechanical issues in our highly specialised heavy vehicles, identifying problems, and proposing effective solutions to ensure optimal vehicle performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to design and develop mechanical components for our highly specialised heavy vehicle fleet, such as engines, transmissions, suspension systems, braking systems, and other vehicle-related parts.
  • Construct prototypes of mechanical systems and components for evaluation and testing purposes. Conduct various tests to assess performance, durability, and safety, and provide feedback to the engineering team for improvements.
  • Ensure that all mechanical components meet the required quality standards and safety regulations. Participate in quality control checks and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Collecting, anaylsing and maintaining records and data as required by the maintenance department.
  • Carry out duties in a manner that does not adversely affect own health and safety or that of others.
  • Comply with all required health and safety and injury management legislation;

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant Diploma Level Qualifications; 
  • Three years or more of proven experience in a similar role may be considered lieu of in formal qualifications; 
  • Experience assembling and installing mechanical systems and components in heavy vehicles or specialised horticulture equipment is preferred;
  • Proven ability to diagnose mechanical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement effective repairs;
  • Experience supporting engineering teams in the design and development of vehicle components and mechanical systems;
  • Ability to think critically; 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environment.
