The Mechanical Engineer will plan, design, organise, and oversee the assembly, erection, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of mechanical and process plant and installations used in sheet-metal fabrication and related heavy mechanical operations.

Task & responsibilities
- Design and develop detailed mechanical systems, components, and sheet metal products ensuring compliance with Australian standards and safety regulations.
- Conduct prototyping, functional testing, and manufacturability assessments to validate design integrity and performance.
- Select appropriate materials, finishes, and fabrication processes to meet technical specifications, cost-effectiveness, and durability requirements.
- Plan, implement, and optimise manufacturing processes including laser cutting, bending, welding, and assembly to achieve efficiency, precision, and scalability.
- Provide technical input in project planning, costing, and scheduling, ensuring design feasibility and timely delivery of engineering solutions.
- Oversee and coordinate fabrication, installation, and commissioning of mechanical systems and assemblies, ensuring they align with project and client specifications.
- Develop and enforce quality control standards, conduct inspections, and resolve mechanical or production issues to maintain product integrity and performance.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot sheet metal and mechanical production equipment, including press brakes and laser cutters, recommending improvements to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering reports, and compliance records for auditing, traceability, and management review.
- Collaborate with design, drafting, production, and client teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and practical engineering solutions.
- Ensure strict adherence to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and support sustainability initiatives in production and manufacturing operations.
Qualification & experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; postgraduate qualifications desirable
- Proven experience of 1 year or more with mechanical systems design
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholder coordination.
- Deep understanding of Australian engineering codes, safety standards, and quality assurance practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, report-writing, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles
- Excellent project management skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities
