Our client in Somerton requires the services of an experienced Maintenance Engineer.

Position Overview:

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimising all plant equipment and systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

Task & responsibilities

•  Plant Performance & Reliability

  • Monitor, analyse, and optimise plant equipment performance to minimise downtime.
  • Support plant availability through proactive maintenance and performance reviews.

•  Maintenance Strategy & Engineering Support

  • Plan and execute preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues, providing timely engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operations, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and on-call emergencies to ensure minimal disruption.

•  Process Optimisation & Quality Support

  • Assist in optimising galvanizing process parameters to improve consistency, throughput, and product quality.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Quality teams to maintain process stability.

•  Capital Projects & Plant Improvements

  • Support installation, upgrades, and major plant improvement projects.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing capital projects to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

•  Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities comply with WHS legislation, Australian Standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to risk assessments, safe work procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.

•  Documentation, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and work methods.
  • Analyse data to identify opportunities for improving plant reliability, efficiency, and safety.

•  Other Responsibilities

  • Promote a zero-harm workplace culture and adherence to OHS standards.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with external service providers and strategic partners.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the CEO.


Qualification & experience

  •  Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (essential).
  • Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience in heavy industry, such as galvanizing, steel, foundry, metals processing, or manufacturing.
  • Solid knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, hoists, conveyors, hydraulics, and furnaces.
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance systems and reliability engineering principles.
  • Understanding of WHS legislation and Australian engineering standards.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a collaborative mindset.
