The opportunity
As a Level 2 Underwriter, you will support the underwriting of general insurance risks across Personal, Farm and SME portfolios, operating within defined underwriting guidelines and delegated authority.
Working from our Newcastle based offices, under the guidance of experienced senior underwriters, you will assist with new business, renewals and endorsements while developing technical capability and sound underwriting judgement in a supportive environment.
Key responsibilities
Assist with underwriting and assessment of new business, renewals and policy endorsements
Support portfolio administration with a focus on accuracy, timeliness and quality
Work closely with Authorised Representatives, Agency staff and internal stakeholders
Follow established referral and escalation processes for risks outside delegated authority
Maintain accurate underwriting records in line with company policies and regulatory requirements
Contribute to quality assurance, compliance and continuous improvement activities
Participate in training and professional development to build underwriting capability
About you
You are detail‑focused, eager to learn and interested in building a long‑term career in underwriting.
You will bring:
Experience in general insurance (underwriting support, broking, agency or insurance administration)
Exposure to Farm, Commercial or SME insurance products
A developing understanding of underwriting principles and risk assessment
Strong organisational and communication skills
A collaborative approach and willingness to learn
Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
Licences & qualifications
Essential / supported:
FNSASIC315 Tier 2 – Provide General and Personal Advice in General Insurance
FNSASIC513 Tier 1 – Provide Advice in General Insurance (or willingness to obtain)
Highly regarded:
Certificate IV or Diploma in General Insurance
ANZIIF studies or willingness to commence
Desirable experience
Experience in the following will be highly regarded but not essential:
Working within a delegated authority model
Exposure to franchised or Authorised Representative environments
Supporting distribution‑focused underwriting teams
