IT Operations and Security Manager
QTAC is a not-for-profit organisation that provides and operates an equitable and centralised tertiary entrance system on behalf of our member and participating institutions to provide comprehensive information for prospective applicants. The institutions that participate in QTAC determine their own admission requirements and QTAC ensures that these admission rules and procedures are administered in a transparent, consistent and equitable manner.
As we continue to evolve our technology environment, we are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking IT Operations and Security Manager to lead our infrastructure and cyber security functions and help shape the future of our technology services.
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing QTAC’s IT infrastructure, cyber security operations and service delivery functions. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer and leading a team of technical specialists, you will drive operational excellence across infrastructure, cloud services and cyber security while fostering a high-performing, customer-focused culture.
You will play a key role in strengthening QTAC’s cyber security maturity, embedding security-by-design principles, leading operational security practices and supporting incident response and business resilience initiatives. At the same time, you'll help shape technology strategy, drive continuous improvement and ensure our systems remain secure, reliable and fit for purpose.

You will:
Lead, mentor and develop the Infrastructure team, fostering a high-performing, customer-focused and collaborative culture.
Oversee the day-to-day operation of QTAC’s infrastructure services, ensuring service levels, quality standards and business requirements are met.
Drive QTAC’s cyber security capability, including security-by-design practices, vulnerability management, incident response and risk mitigation initiatives.
Lead disaster recovery planning, testing and business resilience activities to support organisational continuity and risk management.
Manage and maintain the performance, security and reliability of QTAC’s infrastructure, networks, cloud services and supporting technologies.
Oversee infrastructure projects and technology initiatives, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards.
Develop and implement infrastructure, security and operational improvements that enhance service delivery, resilience and efficiency.
Manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers and service providers to ensure effective support and value for the organisation.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver secure, fit-for-purpose technology solutions.
Support budget planning, forecasting and resource management for infrastructure and technology services.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across infrastructure operations, service delivery, automation and cyber security practices.
Provide technical leadership and strategic advice to support the ongoing evolution of QTAC’s technology environment and cyber security maturity.
Required Skills and Experience
You must have:
Proven experience in a senior IT leadership or management role, with responsibility for infrastructure operations, service delivery and team leadership.
Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing high-performing technical teams in a customer-focused environment.
Strong knowledge of cyber security principles, practices and technologies, with experience implementing security controls, managing risks and supporting incident response activities.
Experience managing enterprise infrastructure environments, including cloud services, networks, servers and business-critical systems.
Demonstrated ability to lead technology projects and operational initiatives while managing competing priorities, budgets and stakeholder expectations.
Experience with automation and modern infrastructure toolsets such as Ansible, Terraform, Git, Python, JSON and YAML.
Strong understanding of disaster recovery, business continuity planning and organisational resilience.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement skills, with the ability to identify opportunities to enhance systems, processes and service delivery.
Experience managing vendors, suppliers and external service providers to achieve operational outcomes.
Ability to lead change, influence outcomes and drive the adoption of new technologies and ways of working.
Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology (or a related discipline) and demonstrated cyber security knowledge or experience
