Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.

Downer Professional Services comprises of three business units our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, and Team Downer, which partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for clients across Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for an ICT Security Specialist in Canberra to work on Joint projects.

What You’ll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

Expertise in cyber security assessment and authorisation, with the ability to develop, deliver and maintain Defence‑compliant security documentation and assurance artefacts. Strong collaboration skills, working closely with Cyber Security Assessors, Product Managers and System Managers across all stages of the CSAA lifecycle. Ability to produce high‑quality security artefacts, including Security Risk Management Plans, System Security Plans, System Security Overviews and Incident Response Plans. Deep understanding of Defence security requirements, ensuring CAF16 systems remain compliant throughout their operational life. Capacity to provide authoritative cyber security advice, undertaking complex assurance tasks and supporting stakeholders with clear, accurate and technically sound guidance.

What You’ll Bring

Strong security assurance expertise, including the ability to deliver advisory services, produce high‑quality assessment and authorisation documentation, and interpret complex Defence security requirements. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, enabling effective collaboration across ICT programs, engineering teams, security stakeholders and broader project groups while mentoring others and supporting team capability uplift. Proven analytical, technical and solution‑focused capability, with experience in threat modelling, developing compliant security solutions, and integrating security requirements across system lifecycles within Defence or similar complex environments. Strong cybersecurity experience in a Defence (ideally CASG) environment Experience in developing security artefacts, including System Security Plans (SSPs) and Security Risk Management Plans

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
